Market Share Comparison of Mobile OS
Android is now the leader in terms of its market share among the mobile operating systems. The Q2 share is 79 percent as published by Gartner. Apples iOS is in the second place with its share which has dropped from 18.8 percent to 14.2 percent.
According to the rating by Gartner, Windows OS’s have bagged a third place ahead of Blackberry. In the 2nd quarter, Microsoft mobile OS got a market share increase from 2.6 percent to 3.3 percent considering the 2nd quarter in the last year. Also the whole shipment of Windows Phones compared to last years increased from 4 million last year to 7.4 million this year.
The market share of BlackBerry decreased from 5.2 percent to 2.7 percent. The shipment also decreased from 7.9 million to 6.1 million. Now the company is considering strategic alternatives which could include a sale of the company. Among mobile OSes, Windows Phone has been standing in the third place since the first quarter of 2013
- Gartner also mentioned that it is the first time that the smartphones sold feature phones in excess in Q2 of 2013
- Biggest growth of the smartphones were seen in Asia – Pacific region with 74.1 percent, followed by 55.7 percent in Latin America and 31.6 percent in Eastern Europe.
- Gartner research also showed, that the smartphones accounted for 51.8 percent sales in mobile phones in Q2 of 2013. Thus for the first time, the sales of smartphones outnumbered that of the feature phones
- The last quarter, the mobile phone sale reached 435 million. This is 3.6 percentage as compared to last year.
